TIPPERARY V KERRY MUNSTER MFC FINAL

Best wishes to the Tipperary Minor Footballers who take on Kerry in the Munster MFC Final in Páirc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday next July 5th at 12noon. Tipperary will be attempting to win their first title at this grade since 1995. Tipperary lost last year’s final to Kerry after a replay and will be hoping to avenge that defeat and win their 6th title at this grade on Sunday.

FOOTBALL QUALIFIER DRAW – TIPPERARY V LOUTH

It will be a busy weekend for followers of Tipperary Football as the senior footballers commence their qualifier campaign with a tough assignment away to Louth in Drogheda on Saturday, July 4th at 7pm. We wish them the best of luck and hope their hard work since their exit from the Munster Championship is rewarded with a win on Saturday night.

COUNTY MINOR C FOOTBALL FINAL

Congratulations to Clonakenny on their victory over Grangemockler in the County Minor C Football final last weekend. Clonakenny are the first club from Mid Tipperary to win this competition since it was inaugurated in 1999.

SEMPLE STADIUM 4 YEAR TICKETS

You can secure a premium quality ticket for the Munster Hurling final at Thurles on July 12th and for all Munster Championship games and County and Mid Tipperary Games at Semple Stadium for the next 4 years, 2009 to 2012, through the Semple Stadium 4 year ticket scheme.

Tickets for this scheme, at €800 each can be purchased by single payment or by standing order over 2 or 4 years. To apply call Siobhan at 0504 22702, e-mail tippgaa@eircom.net, or download application form from www.tipperary.gaa.ie.

MUNSTER SENIOR HURLING FINAL TICKETS

Tickets for the Munster Hurling Final will be distributed to all the clubs before this weekend. Prices are as follows: Adult Covered Stand €35; Adult Uncovered Stand €30; Family Juvenile Stand (Cov/Uncov) €5 (Family tickets are limited so they will be confined to two children max with one or two adults); Terrace €20; Student Terrace €15 (Limited to 1000 per county); Senior Citizens can obtain a refund of €10 on a full priced ticket on production of valid photographic ID at the relevant turnstile prior to entering the stadium (Kinnane Stand Stile1, Ryan Stand Stile 59).

Group Passes: are available at €69 for a pass of 23 juveniles and 2 adults but limited to 7 per county. Group passes must be collected on the day from turnstile 49 at least 1 hour before throw in of the senior game. Due to the limitations on groups, priority will be given to clubs who have availed of this scheme in the Cork and Clare games on a first come first served basis. Closing date for Group applications is this Friday July 3rd. Applications should be sent to the County Secretary, Tim Floyd (secretary.tipperary@gaa.ie or 0504 22702 or Lár na Páirce, Thurles).

Tickets can also be purchased on the Munster GAA website (www.munster.gaa.ie) or Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.ie). Unsold tickets (if any) will go on public sale in the divisions and Lár na Páirce from Thursday July 9th.

COUNTY HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

As the divisional championships reach knockout stages we are getting a clearer picture of which clubs will be participating in the County Senior Hurling Championship via the Dan Breen Cup and the Seamus O Riain Cup. This year the 2 finalists in the O Riain Cup will be allowed back into the Dan Breen Cup at the stage prior to the quarter finals. The 16 teams who qualify for their Divisional semi-finals will go directly to the Dan Breen Cup while all other teams will take part in the Seamus O Riain Cup.

The following are the qualifiers for each Cup as of now:

Dan Breen Cup

Mid Division: Thurles Sarsfields, Drom-Inch, Loughmore-Castleiney, and Upperchurch-Drombane

South Division: Killenaule, Mullinahone, Carrick Swans and Ballybacon Grange

North Division: Nenagh Éire Óg, Portroe plus two quarter final winners from Kilruane MacDonaghs v Toomevara and Borris-Ileigh v Kildangan. The two quarter final losers go to the O Riain Cup

West Division: Clonoulty Rossmore, Cappwhite, Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams plus either Éire Óg Annacarty or Golden Kilfeacle. The game on July 5th between Golden Kilfeace and Clonoulty Rossmore will determine the final position.

Seamus O Riain Cup:

Mid Division: Boherlahan-Dualla, Holycross-Ballycahill, JK Brackens, Moycarkey-Borris

South Division: Ballingarry

North Division: Burgess, Lorrha and Dorrha, Moneygall Roscrea, Templederry Kenyons plus two losing quarter-finalists.

West Division: Cashel King Cormacs plus either Éire Óg Annacarty or Golden Kilfeacle.

It is hoped to commence the O Riain Cup competition on the weekend of July 19th or July 26th.

Good luck to Johnny Ryan of Boherlahan-Dualla and his umpires who will officiate at the Leinster SH Championship final between Kilkenny and Dublin in Croke Park at 4pm.

TIPPERARY CLUBS DRAW

The next Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw takes place on Friday July 17th in The Synott Inn, Knock at 10pm. All are welcome for a good night’s entertainment and to see who the latest lucky winners will be in this best ever Tipperary Clubs Draw.

NEW MID TIPPERARY GAA WEBSITE

The Mid Tipperary GAA Board has launched its own website – www.mid.tipperary.gaa.ie. The website will contain Fixtures, Results, Match reports, Championship and League tables and lots more. There is also a page for clubs who wish to include news on upcoming events such as fundraisers etc. Any Club who wishes to have an item included on the site should contact Jonathan Cullen (jonathancullen1@eircom.net) with the information.

TIPP FM GAA MASTERCLASS

Well done to all the lucky 50 boys and girls who participated in the Tipp FM GAA Masterclass in brilliant sunshine at Semple Stadium on Saturday morning last. Thanks to Liam Sheedy, Manager Senior Hurling team, John Evans, Manager Senior Football team, and the players from the Senior Hurling and Football panels and the Ladies Football panel who came along to coach the children. Barry O’Brien, County Board Chairman welcomed all the children and their parents and thanked Tipp FM for organising it and the inter-county players and managers for making it such a special day for the children. Well done to Tipp FM’s Ian O’Connor and Walty Moloney for organising it and also to commentator Paddy Finucane who gave it full support as always. Thanks also to the Management Committee, caretaker and stewards at Semple Stadium for their support.

MUNSTER FINAL COMMEMORATIVE TORCH RUN

The Munster Final Commemorative Torch Run commences at the cottage of Michael Cusack in Carron, County Clare at 12 noon on Saturday July 11th. It will then be brought by clubs in Clare to the Limerick border and from there by the Limerick clubs to the Tipperary border where it will be handed over at 6pm. It will then be brought to Thurles via Newport (arriving 6.15pm), Rearcross (arriving 6.55pm), Metal Bridge (arriving 7.25pm) and Ballycahill (8pm). The torch will travel on a special “Torchmobile” between towns and villages and will be carried through the towns and villages by the local clubs. It will be brought on foot from Thurles Racecourse to Liberty Square by the Thurles clubs commencing at the Racecourse at 8.30pm and arriving in Liberty Square at 9pm. On Sunday July 12th it will be brought from Liberty Square to Semple Stadium at 2.15pm. It will be carried by former hurlers from all the Munster Counties with Jimmy Doyle of Thurles Sarsfields and Tipperary fame carrying it into the Stadium between the minor and senior game for presentation to the Chairman of the Munster Council, Jimmy O’Gorman. The Torch Run is symbolic of the GAA’s journey over the last 125 years and the Association’s commitment to keeping the flame burning as strongly as ever into the future.

MUNSTER FINAL PREVIEW ON SUNDAY GAME ON NIGHT OF JULY 5TH

The Sunday Game on Sunday night, July 5th, as well as showing highlights of the weekend’s games will have a special section on the Munster Hurling Final. There will be a live audience for the first time ever on the Sunday game and it will comprise representatives from the Munster counties all of whom have strong ties with the great occasion that is the Munster Hurling final. Among the audience guests from Tipperary will be Nicky English, Liz Howard, Len Gaynor, Babs Keating, Donie Nealon and Tony Reddin. There will also be a live link to Hayes Hotel, birthplace of the GAA 125 years ago, where Marty Morrissey will conduct some interviews with former hurlers and also guests associated with this year’s Munster Final. It should be well worth viewing!
