The Pied Piper opens at The Source, Thurles

It’s got rats n’ rappers, music and songs, stolen sausages, nibbled Christmas cake, holey cheese and a magical mountain all set in a video wonderland! It’s a charming, fun-filled family trip out featuring a huge cast from all parts of the community, song and dance of every kind, film sequences made locally and a different celebrity every night playing the Sleeping Mayor.

Yes, with a cast involving over 60 local people, hilarious comedy double acts, some of your favourite songs (from Who Let the Dog Out and Best of Both Worlds, to Love is in the Air and You Sexy Thing), flamboyant panto costumes, some spicy local humour and the triumph of good over incompetence, it’s a real winter tonic and great family night out!

So come to The Source and see a feast of video magic – many sequences filmed around town (come and spot where our roving camera crew went!) – enjoy a classic tale rewritten specially for Tipperary, and try and guess who’s playing the Good Mayor… Will it be Michael Lowry TD? Thurles’ Mayor Evelyn Nevin? Cllr Seamus Hanafin? Austin Broderick?…. Who’s going to save the town from the rats?!

The show opens on Saturday 12th December and plays until Sunday 20th – 3pm and 7pm shows on Saturdays and Sundays, and just 7pm on week nights (NB no shows on Monday 14th or Tuesday 15th). Comedy duos, super rats, expert problem solvers, hopeless mayors, gossiping townsfolk, pipers, servants, wise women and much more are played by:

A mad, visually funny and comic rat infested video accompanies the show, with film sequences from around town, including local supermarkets (staring some much loved local figures!), food and furniture outlets, not to mention Thurles’ very own Tipp Star team!

Other local groups involved are: the Elle Academy of Dance, Pauline Dwan’s Dance School, Edel Kelly’s Irish Dance Group and Fracture Youth Theatre, and with one off appearances by a host of local faces from Michael Lowry TD to Austin Broderick, and local councillors to figures from the Thurles music and drama scene, there are endless surprises and guaranteed laughs in The Tipp Panto!
