The North Tipperary Opportunities Fair was timely, relevant and valuable

The  Tus Nua North Tipperary Opportunities Fair attracted more than 200 people to Nenagh on Tuesday last May 26th. The fair was a multi agency response to the growing unemployment problem in the county and featured  information desks, seminars and an opportunity to meet with representatives of Tipperary Institute, Enterprise IrelandTipperary North County Enterprise Board FAS, North Tipperary VEC, Department of Social & Family Affairs, Tipperary Leader Partnership , HSE and a host of others offering options in terms of financial supports for returning to education, upskilling, start your own business or advice on how to confront the challenges of your unemployed status.

Tus Nua was hailed as a great example of agencies co-operating by Moya Breen, Director of the Business Department at Tipperary Institute.  Moya speaking to the local media said that “thirty four exhibitors from across the training, education, business development, banking and welfare spectrum participated in the Fair which provided valuable information and contacts for the hundreds of people who visited.”

The agencies involved in the organisation of Tus Nua will now assess the outcome, consider the needs identified by attendees and endeavour to come up with a meaningful response at local level.

One of Ireland’s first ever political Rap songs

Tipperary man Senator Alan Kelly has released a Rap song

Now we don’t favour one politician over another here in Tipp Tatler Towers (we prefer cold hard cash instead of political posturing) but this video caught our attention here today. And even though he hasn’t advertised in our latest issue (an oversight, for which heads will roll, I am sure) he has advertised with us in the past. So seeing that we look after all our customers, past and present and the fact that video is a fantastic piece of work, we couldn’t but post it here on our blog. Enjoy!

The following text is from the YouTube site where the video is hosted: (Written by Garry McCarthy aka GMC featuring State of Jay)

One of Irelands first ever political rap songs will be revealed by Labour MEP candidate in Cork City, this coming Wednesday, May 26th at 10am on the docks outside the Clarion Hotel.

The song, recorded by GMC, the famous Cork rapper who previously had a Top 15 hit with Not tonight has composed a song entitled Dont make the wrong choice Vote Alan Kelly in support of the Labour campaign

Speaking ahead of the unveiling, Senator Kelly said:

It is a very entertaining, humorous song but with a very serious message portraying the anger that many people are feeling but talking using Europe as a mechanism to create jobs and come out the other side of the recession. GMC has done an amazing job getting to the heart of a real issue in a way that is entertaining to young people who would not typically have an interest in political matters, stated Senator Kelly.

The song, Dont Make the wrong choice – Vote Alan Kelly was written by Garry McCarthy (aka GMC) with music by famous Cork band State of Jay

Dive in to the world of computer gaming at The Source

The Art of the Computer Game is the name of a ground breaking exhibition opening in The Source Arts Centre, Thurles on Friday 5th June and running until 25th July. Mounted in conjunction with Tipperary Institute, this interactive installation is designed to bring the visitor into the world of computer gaming and give them an insight into the art and creativity that takes place behind the scenes. This will ultimately lead to the debate on whether computer games are, or can be viewed as an art form in their own right.

Using projection techniques and interactive controls, the viewer is encouraged to engage with the software and take control themselves. There are examples of the artwork behind some of the game’s characters along with three dimensional models, on loan from different companies, and comparisons with other media to help view things in a different context. This exhibition does not set out to answer any questions you may have about computer gaming and it’s place in the arts world. It is designed to give you food for thought and to start the debate.

The Art of the Computer Game has been the inspiration behind Game’s Over, this year’s youth arts programme at The Source, which will culminate with a performance of a live interactive computer game, in which the audience will control the participants on stage.

So, whether you are a complete cyber freak or computer games are all alien to you, The Art of the Computer Game should leave you with something to think about.

The Art of the Computer Game is at The Source Arts Centre from Friday 5th June to Saturday 25th July Admission is free. www.thesourceartscentre.ie
